The Google Maps Pin Scam: A New Threat to Your Google Business Profile

There’s a scam happening with Google Maps and Google Business Profiles. Competitors can change your business location on Google Maps, which can hurt your rankings.

Scammers use the “Suggest an edit” feature to move your business pin to a new location. When this happens, Google thinks your business has moved, and your rankings can drop.

Google doesn’t tell you when this change happens, so you might not know why you’re losing customers or calls. If your rankings suddenly drop, this could be why.

If this scam affects you, you can’t just move the pin back. Doing so might get your profile suspended.

How to Fix It

Here’s how to fix this problem:

  1. Log into Google with an email not linked to any Google Business Profile.
  2. Search for your business on Google Maps.
  3. Click “Suggest an edit.”
  4. Click “Change name or other details.”
  5. Click “Edit map location.”
  6. Move the pin to the correct location.
  7. Click “Save.”

Always check your Google Business Profile for any changes others make.
